What is the difference between Genius mobile pay and a mobile card reader or machine?
Genius mobile pay allows you to accept contactless card payments and digital wallets with a phone. You don’t need to plug any additional hardware into your phone to make it work. That’s because tap to pay works through Near Field Communications (NFC), which is a short-range wireless technology that enables communication between devices and contactless cards.
A mobile card machine is a traditional payment terminal that accepts physical cards, whereas a card reader is typically inserted into a mobile phone to accept physical cards, mobile wallets or contactless cards.

What is the difference between tap to pay and mPOS?
The main difference between tap to pay and mPOS (mobile point of sale) is that with tap to pay you don’t need extra hardware — you can do everything through your phone. With mPOS, you need a separate card reader or machine to process payments.

Is Genius mobile pay secure?
Genius mobile pay is designed from the ground up to protect your customers’ personal information. Payment card information is encrypted so card numbers aren’t visible (and can’t be detected by fraudsters) on your phone.
Genius mobile pay also uses tokenisation so the smartphone or device never stores customer cardholder data and cannot be used for any other transactions.
Genius mobile pay is compatible with the Contactless Payments on COTS (CPoC) standard from the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) and is PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliant.
All credit or debit card information stays between Global Payments, your customer and the card issuer and is used purely to authorise and process the transaction.

What devices work with Genius mobile pay?
Tap to Pay on Android requires an operating system of Android 9 or later, with Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled.
Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later, running iOS 17 or higher with NFC enabled.

What if my customer’s transaction is challenged for a PIN (Personal Identification Number)?
We advise asking your customer to try the transaction with a digital wallet. We also can retry the contactless transaction through a QR code online payment. This method also allows you to accept payments from customers who have reached their £100 contactless card limit.

Can I process a refund on Genius mobile pay?
Yes, our Genius mobile pay app allows you to process refunds quickly and easily — right from your phone.

What payment methods can I accept with Genius mobile pay?
You can accept contactless payments from debit and credit cards issued by Visa and Mastercard as standard on Genius mobile pay, along with all digital wallets, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.

When will I receive my funds?
With next day settlement, typically you receive funds by noon on the next business day.

Can I accept a contactless payment if I have no access to wifi?
Yes, you can accept payments over wifi, mobile (4G/5G) or with Bluetooth® connectivity. You can even take payments from a smartwatch or any NFC-enabled device.
